“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell.” – Philippians 1:21-22

The first half of this verse ought look far too familiar. It’s in all kinds of songs (“To Live Is Christ” by Sidewalk Prophets comes to mind). It speaks volumes to the value in our lives and our reward that comes at the end of this earthly life.

But verse 22 elaborates on the proverb-esque statement in verse 21. Paul goes on to say that living in the flesh means “fruitful labors” for him. We have this amazing opportunity in this life (which, to live is Christ) to make every moment a positive one, and bring about good works, thus being a light for Him.

>>Purpose Statement #4: Living a worthy life for Christ creates a life worth living.<<

Live for Him. Make every second about our Holy God (cf. 1 Sam 2:2, 1 Pet 1:16, Rev 4:8, Isa 6:3, 57:15). Follow Him and He will give you purpose (cf. Prov 3:5-6, 1 Pet 2:9, Lk 5:11, Jn 8:12, Acts 20:24, Jn 12:26, Mk 8:36).

The next message will get rather raw. Can’t wait to unpack Phil. 1:23-24 with you!
